The Federal Standard was established in 1859 by G Mott, F Ashworth and G Boyer and ceased publication in 1969. The surviving single storey brick printing office dates from the early 1860s. It has a simple hipped roof and the walls are punctuated with brick piers. Several newspapers were published here during the nineteenth century and distributed throughout the area.
